Overview
WET design is always seeking to develop experiences that bring people together, evoke emotion, and instill a sense of wonder. They are known for creating awe inspiring project installations throughout the world that combine water, fire, lighting, sound and robotics.

The goal of Shimmer was to utilize the technology, and talent at WET to bring home the magic of water in the form of a consumer product. Shimmer is a contemplative piece that draws you in to observe the dancing beads of water, sparks of light and the subtle sounds that activate any space.
The two sides of this project we had to keep in mind were maintaining the magic and purity of the expression, and then creating all the parts and components with the end user in mind. This required looking at the setup and maintenance experience including how often it needs to be refilled, the water treated, and the reservoir cleaned to continue to work effectively. Through exploring user scenarios we identified the seams or potential problems in the experience.
The design of the body is meant to be as minimal as possible to keep the attention on the expression. At night, the body is meant to blend in with the darkness and your eye is drawn to the seemingly floating glass plate and the water moving in a somewhat inexplicable way.
